Why is awareness so important?

February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and teal is the international colour for ovarian cancer. This February all Australian's are invited to host an Afternoon Teal and raise awareness and funds for ovarian cancer awareness, support and research.

Awareness of ovarian cancer is vital as there is no reliable early detection test, the pap smear does not detect ovarian cancer.

With no early detection test it's vital to know the symptoms and listen to your body.

The four most commonly reported symptoms of ovarian cancer are:
   • Increased abdominal size or persistent bloating
   • Unexplained abdominal or pelvic pain
   • Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
   • Needing to urinate often or urgently

If you experience these symptoms on all or most days for 2 weeks or more you need to visit your GP and find out the cause.
